Accijnshuis on Damrak
The second stop for the travelling exhibition LUVANE’s Advertising Art, which started in Enschede, is Amsterdam! The exhibit takes place at Café40, located in the former Accijnshuis on Damrak, and features a small selection of works created to promote public events at the University of Twente. From August 1st until 31st, visitors of the cafe in the centre of Amsterdam can enjoy various prints of illustrations and the original programme booklets in which they were first published.

Informative coasters
To inform visitors about the exhibit, coasters with information about the art and the artist are used in the café throughout August. Originally, the plan was to share information about the exhibit via a small panel on the wall. But why let the visitors search for — and possibly fail to find — the information when you can bring it to them?

Original booklets
The display cabinets at the venue are ideal for showcasing the original programme booklets in which the advertising art was published. Showing the booklets helps visitors understand the term ‘advertising art’ and allows them to see the cover art created for various editions. For anyone interested in the drawing process and reasoning behind the illustrations, QR codes linking to the LUVANE Explains videos were attached to the cabinet doors.

In the news
For those who understand Dutch, the news article published by local newspaper Amsterdams Dagblad might be a good read. It explains more about one of the main reasons behind this travelling exhibition: the rise of generative AI and how it influences the way we communicate and learn to develop our communication skills.
